Retreat to the tranquil oasis of Hope Springs where you can enjoy the beautiful Californian climate without getting caught up in the Hollywood rat race.

This retro-styled hotel is built around a natural hot spring, which flows into not one, but three separate pools. So you’ll be spoilt for choice!

In keeping with the theme of relaxation, the hotel offers a range of exotic treatments with which to pamper yourself. Detox with a marine body wrap or stimulate with an aromatherapy salt glow.

You’ll be so refreshed after a stay at Hope Springs, you may never want to leave!

Treebones Resort, USA

A human-sized bird’s nest might sound like a flight of fancy, but at Treebones Resort it’s actually a reality!

The bird brain behind this idea is resident artist, Jayson Fann, whose giant woven nest gives visitors the chance to experience the ultimate in ‘extreme eco-sleep’. We’re not exactly sure what that means,  but the nest definitely offers a superb perch from which to admire the stunning scenery of Big Sur.

But if the thought of spending a night here ruffles your feathers, then we recommend one of the 16 Mongolian Yurts which make up the rest of the resort. You’ll be afforded a lot more privacy and shelter from the elements!

Building this bed and breakfast must have been a blast… literally. That’s because, back in 1980, Kokopelli’s Cave in New Mexico was blasted out of sandstone.

In 1996, the cave was ready for its first paying guest. Since then, there has been a steady stream of visitors, originally seeking unusual accommodation, who have been surprised at just how comfortable rooms carved out of stone can be! With its modern kitchen equipment, hot and cold water, and luxuries such as its cascading waterfall-style shower and flagstone hot tub, you’ll wonder why all B&Bs aren’t underground.

Calling all dog-lovers!  You’ve just got to check this out… At Cottonwood, Idaho, they’ve got the world’s biggest dog and, what’s more, you can stay inside it!

Say hello to Sweet Willy and his 12-feet tall puppy friend, Toby. Both are the work of Dog Bark Park sculptors, Dennis Sullivan and Frances Conklin.

Sweet Willy offers comfortable accommodation for four people. As well as a queen-sized bed and two single futons, there are all the home comforts you would expect. What you won’t find, however, is a television or a phone. These have been replaced with an impressive selection of books, games and puzzles! Things that put the ‘family’ into family holiday.

And, naturally, your dog is welcome too! Just make sure that he is well behaved and that you bring a healthy supply of poop-scoop bags!

Don’t leave without visiting Frances and Dennis’s Chainsaw Kennels and Gift Shop, to take home a doggy reminder of your “Stay!”

The Rendez Vous hotel in sunny Palm Springs, California, sure is a blast from the past!  Its 1950s theme will have you rocking and rolling throughout your stay.

Its themed rooms include the James Dean-inspired ‘Rebel Without a Cause’, the motor-mad ‘Route 66’ and even a room taking on the sound of the 50s itself with ‘Shake, Rattle ‘n’ Roll’!

Wake up with a Sweet Hot Monte Cristo breakfast, enjoy a blue raspberry martini by the pool or even hire a cruiser bike to explore the sites – pure luxury!

So, if you see yourself as a Marilyn Monroe look-alike or you’re a bit of an Elvis wannabe, then this is the hotel for you!
