Up On The Roof

Rendezvous

Be-Bop-A-Lula! The production team have arrived in sunny California to shoot the Rendezvous Hotel, which offers a totally hip 1950’s experience.  As you can see, they’ve been rocking around the clock to cover every inch of this retro hotel. We just hope there was no shake, rattle or roll to that roof otherwise our camera man could be facing three steps to heaven! Later ‘gater!

Tepee Or Not Tepee?

Wigwam_Motel2

The Weird & Wonderful production crew are currently getting their kicks on America’s legendary Route 66! During their road trip, the team made a pit stop at Rialto’s Wigwam Motel where (not surprisingly) guests can stay the night in one of 19 giant Wigwams. Standing at 30 feet tall, these dwellings would have originally been constructed using animal skins – but wildlife lovers needn’t worry, the owners of this hotel have thoughtfully used concrete instead!

Music To Watch Hotels By

Theme

The theme tune for Weird & Wonderful Hotels is finally finished and sounds fantastic! But don’t take my word for it, use the media player below to listen for yourself!

Produced by Chris Lewis and Sleepydog’s Mark Hilton, the brief was to create a toe tapping melody that would stay with the viewer long after they’ve watched the show. And if the number of people whistling it in our office is anything to go by, I think they’ve succeeded!

Be sure to tell us what you think of the theme tune in the comments box below.

Hotel _Christmas_Chapel

Whilst filming in Japan, the production team decided to experience some off-season festive cheer, with a visit to the Hotel Christmas Chapel. This cheeky ‘love hotel’ offers couples the chance to cosy up in a Christmas themed room – but don’t worry, you’re unlikely to be visited by a jolly old man during the night!

Hakone_Ginyu

Konichiwa! The Weird & Wonderful production crew have made it to the land of the rising sun where they are busy shooting Hakone Ginyu. This traditional Ryokan guesthouse mixes old with new to create a uniquely ‘Zen’ environment. And with stunning views of the surrounding mountains, you might feel so at peace that you’ll never want to leave!

An Audience With Madame Helga

Helga's Folly

Fresh from their filming in the Maldives, the production team have made a quick hop over to Sri Lanka to shoot Helga’s Folly. The proprietor of this eccentric art hotel was the inspiration for Stereophonics‘ UK hit ‘Madame Helga’, and by the look of her fabulous attire, we can certainly see why! Definitely a front-runner in the Weird & Wonderful style stakes.

Getting Our Feet Wet

Soneva_Gili

As if one luxury resort in the Maldives was not enough, our production team have ’somehow’ managed to find time to visit a second! Soneva Gili is set in and around one of the largest lagoons in the Maldives, and as you can see, guests can enjoy open air bathrooms with nothing between you and the incredible surroundings. Hopefully the team weren’t too camera shy to give it a go.

Soneva_Fushi

Maruhaba! The Weird & Wonderful crew have touched down in the Maldives to shoot Soneva Fushi – a luxury retreat which rewards all the human senses. We’re pleased to see the team are complying with the hotel’s no shoes policy, just be careful not to get any sand in that equipment!

Kilindi

Whilst filming at the Kilindi eco-resort, our camera man got some unexpected assistance from one of the locals! As you can see, this chap seems to have a natural flare for framing a shot, giving our regular camera man a little time to relax and enjoy the hotel facilities.  Back to work now please!
